To establish a SMSF you need a minimum of Two Individual Trustees. Individual Trustees are the most popular way to establish a SMSF as appointing Individual Trustees for a SMSF is FREE! Some Clients however prefer to have a Company as Trustee for their SMSF, which is allowed. The disadvantage with having a Company as Trustee for your Fund is that you must establish the Company (if you have not already done so) which can cost up to $600 which is an establishment fee payable to ASIC . In addition there is an additional annual ASIC Fee of $40. These fees can be easily avoided by simply using Individual Trustees for your Fund.

How to Establish a Company
If you do not have an existing Company to act as the Fund Trustee, but would like to establish a Company to act as Trustee for your SMSF, this can be done with any firm that establishes companies.
